Be Like a Tree - Zen Talks By Thích Phước Tịnh -Edited and Illustrated by our sangha’s co-founder, Karen Hilsberg.
For the first time, the dharma talks of Zen Master Thích Phước Tịnh are available in English. These teachings are direct and poetic. They speak to the everyday dilemmas of being human in the 21st century. The Venerable (as he is known to his students) offers the fundamental tools to apply mindfulness to our everyday lives as we parent our children, grow older, honor our ancestors, express gratitude, and communicate with our loved ones. He offers instructions on how to meditate and how to cultivate the most precious gifts that life has to offer: non-fear, recognizing our thoughts and feelings, creating space in our lives, loving and being loved, cultivating our spirituality, and tasting the enjoyment of our own lives. We can accomplish all of this through the diligent practice of mindfulness, and the Venerable tells us exactly how to do it in these delightful and practical talks.
The Ten Oxherding Paintings: Zen Talks by Thich Phuoc Tinh -Edited and Illustrated by our sangha’s co-founder, Karen Hilsberg. For the second time, the dharma talks of Zen Master Thich Phuoc Tinh are available in English. These talks focus on the famous Ten Oxherding Paintings in the Zen tradition. The paintings, which are symbolic of the spiritual journey, depict the progress from the beginning of our meditation practice until we attain the fruit of enlightenment. In these talks we learn that when we begin to look for our true mind, we are searching for something without realizing that it is within us already. These talks teach us how to recognize our own radiant awareness in the present moment. They also guide us through the paintings in an engaging and easy-to-understand way. The Venerable teaches us how to set our intentions and to keep the fire of determination burning until we achieve our goal.
